Why I Am Running for 2027 IEEE Division V Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect and Seek Your Support

In this position, I will strive to significantly expand our impact in three key areas:

AI Technical Leadership

As AI reshapes every facet of society, we must embrace this transformation and secure a position as a strategic anchor institution for the AI era: guiding technological innovation, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration, preparing the future workforce, and serving as a trusted and influential voice in technology policy and global societal discussions.

Diversity and Geographic Representation

We must reflect the global community we serve. Expanding our reach to every segment of our constituency and fostering a membership that is diverse, inclusive, and representative of the world's scientific and engineering talent should be a central strategic priority.

Grassroot Leadership

Many of our greatest successes began with individual members who saw a need, recognized an opportunity, and took the initiative to act. Fostering this entrepreneurial spirit is a defining characteristic of a vibrant organization and should remain one of our highest priorities.

That is why I am running for your 2027 IEEE Division V Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect.

I am an experienced leader (I was the 2017 Computer Society President and was awarded the IEEE CS 2026 Richard E. Merwin Award for Distinguished Service). My focus as Division Director will be on fostering open communities, ensuring the seamless flow of information, responding to the evolving needs of our members, and, most importantly, promoting inclusivity across all fronts. These principles have guided my long and distinguished service to IEEE, and with your support, I will continue to champion them as IEEE Division V Delegate-Elect/Director.

My qualifications

My priorities

As a skilled leader, I will work to unify emerging opportunities into a coherent, viable vision for the future. I will prioritize supporting Societies, Councils, Chapters, and Student Chapters—the core of IEEE. Recognizing that innovation often grows from grassroots efforts, I will encourage these groups to explore and establish new activities, develop new products, and disseminate technical information as widely as possible.

I will also focus on breaking down traditional silos, fostering interaction among members through multi-society memberships, interdisciplinary events, and modern communication platforms. This will help us create new, innovative ways to connect and collaborate.

While our hallmark services—transactions, magazines, standards, and conferences—remain central to our mission, I will actively promote the Open Access publication mandate to keep us competitive in the ever-evolving publication landscape.

My overarching goal is to continue fostering a demographically diverse and inclusive membership, beginning at the grassroots level. Now, more than ever, we need to nurture volunteer-based, grassroots activities that address the needs of our members.

Division Directors play essential roles in IEEE governance. The Division V Director, one of two directors/delegates elected by the Computer Society membership, represents its members within the larger IEEE organization (more details here).

In summary, my vision for this role is rooted in inclusivity across demographics, geography, and technical disciplines. With rapid technological advancements, changing information dissemination methods, and evolving member demographics and needs, IEEE faces significant challenges and opportunities for transformation. My experience and insight will be invaluable in navigating these challenges and seizing the opportunities they present.

I respectfully ask for your vote and support as I work to help IEEE—and the broader computing community—navigate the profound transformation of the AI era. As Division V Delegate, I will represent the Division V constituency in the IEEE Assembly. As Division Director and a member of the IEEE Board of Directors, I will serve IEEE as a whole, bringing my deep experience in computing and the Computer Society to the broader leadership of IEEE
